Commissioned by the Town of Brattleboro with funds from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts Art-in-Public-Places Program Landscape architect: David Raphael

This work was commissioned as part of the construction of a new park and county courthouse on land that was most recently used as a filling station. The foundation plan is loosely drawn from photographs of a grand Italianate house that stood on the site at the turn of the century. In addition to recalling that structure, it provides a gathering place for office workers who sit on the porch steps for lunch and for occasional performances and festivals. As a link to the more recent life of the site, a granite grass marker inscribed with the words GAS PUMPS sits between two benches on the spot where the gas station pumps were located.
